DAY 01: CUSCO-BAMBOO LODGE
We leave early from Cusco to Manu National Park, begin our tour through the Andes by private bus, where we will see the pre -Inca cemetery called Lupaca after we are heading to picturesque village of Paucartambo where we are able to have our quick tour to main square to know about their history and then we will heading to Manu National Park entrance located at 3500 m.a.s.l. (11482ft).
From this place we will drop to mysterious cloud forest covered of green mountains ; today we have the possibility of see some animals such as : Common-Woolly Monkey, Brown-Capuchin Monkey, Tayra, Spectacled Bear (uncommon),...etc. Amazing colorful birds such as: Golden-Headed Quetzal, Masked Trogon, Mountain-Hooded Tanager, Dusky-Green Oropendola; cloud forest is also the habitat of Cock of the Rock beautiful colorful bird considered national bird of Peru which we will have the chance to see on the route.
We take the chance to make a fascinating walk along the road looking for more wildlife and after that we continue our trip another hour more until bamboo lodge 830 m.a.s.l (2723ft)
DAY 02: BAMBOO LODGE-SOGA DE ORO
Today morning after breakfast we continue our journey by car to next lodge passing two small towns before get to denser Amazonian jungle we can also feel the change of climate this home stretch is definitely the transition zone between cloud forest and the Amazon jungle and we have the chance to see the jungle from strategic viewpoint before to arrival to Atalaya port.
Here we change the car for motorized boat and we sail downriver approximately twenty-five minutes on Madre de Dios river to next lodge where we will check in and after our lunch we are beginning our first hike in the jungle where we have chances to see wildlife like: Parrots, Macaws, Oropendolas, beautiful small birds, Common Squirrel Monkey, Dusky Titi Monkey,..Etc.
We are back to the dinner
DAY 03: EXPLORING AROUND SOGA DE ORO LODGE
At dawn we are leaving in motorized boat ten minute downriver to clay lick where parrots such as: Blue-Headed Parrots, Mealy Parrots, White-Eyed-Parakeet, Dusky-Headed Parakeet, Chestnut-Fronted-Macaw come down to lick clay to stabilize their digestion and socialize some can getting couple because they are monogamous and they will live forever together from that time.
After this activity we will begin to walk by trails to looking for wildlife during the morning.
After lunch we are heading to small lake called Machuwasi which is located half hour walking through the jungle, where we can navigating in traditional rafts made of balsa tree there: will see hoatzins beautiful birds descendants from first pre-historic feathered bird called Archaeopteryx also we can see colorful birds.
DAY 04: SOGA DE ORO LODGE - NATURAL HOT SPRINGS POOL AND WATERFALLS (full day)
Today we will take our motorized boat and we head towards to pool of natural hot springs two hours downstream, this journey gives us the chance to see the largest rodent in the world that inhabits the Peruvian jungle called Capybara like a guinea pig is also good route to see river birds as: cormorants, herons, kingfishers, vultures, Etc.
When we get to hot spring we have the option to walk in the jungle and to find the dwarf monkey called Saddle-Backed Tamarin; also we will visit a beautiful natural pool from waterfalls where you can take a dip before to return to hot spring pool.
After this we are return to lodge to dinner and after dinner we will make a one-hour night walk to observe nocturnal wildlife and feel the experience.
DAY 05: SOGA DE ORO –CUSCO
Today we will leave after breakfast towards the city of Cusco; we will sail against the current of the river to Atalaya and from there will take the car through the mysterious cloud forest where we do fast stops if we will see some animals or colorful birds.
Arrival to Cusco will be early evening.
CONSIDERATIONS OF TOUR
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Climate: The unpredictable weather may force us to change our itinerary; the program could be subject to changes at any time.
Route: We are making the tour by dusty and narrow road (cloud forest) motorized boat (Madre de Dios river).
Jungle lodges are basic but comfortable, some lodges having electricity from a solar panel and provide energy to charge our batteries from a generator, and the rooms are two beds with mosquito net (depending on the area) with hygienic services shared in some lodges.
